Restoration of Unilevers training facility called for Tretford

Seating area in Unilever's training facility with grey Tretford Carpets

Joseph Hamilton & Seaton (JHS) worked closely with Surrey based contractor Abbotsbury Carpet & Flooring to identify a suitable carpet tile for ‘FOUR ACRES’ – Unilevers prestigious Surrey based International Training Facility.

Requirements overview

This impressive mock Tudor property is Grade II listed and is maintained to the highest possible standard. Among other reclaimed materials used during initial construction (circa 1924) is timber from the Armada which the original owner acquired whilst in Spain during WW1. Unilever are committed to a continued restoration programme that is sympathetic to the buildings history and current usage.

An eco-friendly and sustainable carpet tile with a proven track record where quality and durability are concerned was required. Additionally it was important that the product recommended demonstrate superb aesthetic and acoustic qualities. The area’s to be covered included an auditorium and sizeable training rooms where high numbers of caster chairs were present, also a reception area.

JHS signature product TRETFORD was put forward as a perfect contender where the company’s requirements were concerned. It was necessary for the contractor to carry out a number of presentations to demonstrate suitability and the product was subjected to rigorous checks by the decision makers at Unilever. Bearing in mind the high levels of caster chairs involved JHS arranged for a bespoke manufacturing process to be applied to improve the tiles durability.

A number of other manufacturers/suppliers made proposals and eventually JHS TRETFORD was chosen.

This product has been available for over 50 years and is still a favourite where architects and key specifiers are concerned. It is extremely sympathetic to the environment from both a manufacturing point of view and its recyclable properties.

With an unrivalled and stunning colour bank currently standing at 60, Tretford is available in both tile and 2m roll.

The principle component in Tretford is goat hair which is a by-product of goat farming for the cashmere industry producing a soft finish and luxurious appearance. It is sourced in Inner Mongolia where the goats are farmed in large quantities. The hair is incredibly durable and hard wearing yet surprisingly soft to touch and inherently anti-static.
